Homage to Black 3, Expressions in Chinese Ink

Dr Mae-Wan Ho

This collection completes the Homage to Black series. It is a selection from paintings done during two periods, April-June and October-December 2014, while feeling bereft over the death of two old friends (Emilio Del Giudice - Illuminating Water and Life and The Perennial Passion of Philip Nicholas Furbank, SiS 64). Emilio Del Giudice and Nick Furbank were fonts of inspiration in complementary spheres of science and the humanities that had made my life complete, and irreplaceable in my heart and mind.

I needed to recreate their inspiration and to follow where that inspiration takes me. The break between the two periods was dedicated to family and among other things, to thinking of Sustainable Cities as Organisms - A Circular Thermodynamics Perspective (SiS 64). During the October-December period, science and art worked in synergy, as I began putting together a comprehensive worldview that would include the origin and meaning of life the universe and everything

The paintings are in roughly chronological order, charting a transformation in feeling and style towards greater freedom and spontaneity, the ever illusive ideal of Chinese art. But I still have some way to go.

Dear May Wan, how moving your calligraphy that remembers your sweet friends. They are beautiful and full of life. Thank you for sharing them. Do you mind when I share them with a friend of mine who also paints with ink and inspired by chinese calligraphy. Hope you are well. Last weekend I gave a Pansori workshop called: the wounded heart. It was moving. I also worked with Walter's music and most students could feel effects on the physical level. Would love to talk to you, but that will come in spring. Love to you, Yvonne.

Dear Yvonne, Thank you for your comment. I see music in colour and form. Your workshop on sound and singing was most inspiring. Would love to explore all that we only had the time to touch ever so lightly. Look forward to the spring, which also means the source, the origin...

Never knew the artist in you Mae-Wan! Deeply admire and appreciate your inspirational artwork as well as the regular scientific discourses of vast contemporary and futuristic importance all living being on our planet. I have lived in Viet Nam for the last five years and see the mayhem caused by Agent Orange and the current use of weedicides and inorganic fertilizers on this beautiful land its innocent people and the ecosystem. Long may you continue the good work. If you do wish to put your art work on a wider display, please visit www.artradio.tv Ivan
